Client Development You Dont Have To Be Original

Developing the Next Generation of Rainmakers Client Development: You Don’t Have to be Original When I was a young lawyer, I rarely had an original idea.  I was able to put pieces of ideas others had together and create something. I saw this quote by Chuck Palahniuk, the author of Fight Club,    that really applied to my success practicing law: Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everyone I’ve ever known. I am the combined effort of my father, my first mentor, a top construction lawyer, famous coaches, business writers, motivational writers and many others. Last week I posted: Career Success: Who is holding you accountable?    I borrowed from several of those people who held me accountable. My father taught me to find something I believed I could become the best and go for it. My first mentor taught me I could have a strong work ethic and still be a good husband and father. Overton Currie, a top notch construction lawyer taught me how to create content (writing and presentations) that construction clients would value and then present them in a way that be unique and most engaging. I could go on, but I hope you get the idea. You are the combined effort of everyone you have ever known. Take a moment and think about what part of each person you borrowed and how you are using it. I practiced law for 37 years developing a national construction law practice representing some of the top highway and transportation construction contractors in the US.
